Tartarooga Dodger

Posted on April 24, 2019February 14, 2020 by admin

This hard dodger was made in Sidney BC. Shown with and without canvas.  The top picture is during a race, which we won. The dodger extends quite far over the cockpit so you can sit under it out of the rain. We have a back curtain which turns it into a two person wheelhouse, we can steer from there using the Raymarine S-100 autopilot remote. It is strong enough to stand on. We have two 100-watt Renogy solar panels mounted on top.

In 2016 the original Oyster colored Sunbrella canvas was replaced with Dark Blue. That was what Jacques from Tartarooga recommended when the dodger was built but I though the lighter color would blend better with the deck color. I was wrong. The almost white color showed dirt and “green stuff” and was impossible to clean perfectly. The blue is much better. It staill needs cleaning but even dirty it looks OK.

A nice product. I bought a boat with a Tartarooga hard dodger. The owner, Jaques, was very unfiriendly and unhelpful. He tried to tell me that no one else could sew canvas side curtains for his dodger because it was his “intellectual property”. I’d avoid this guy.

I found him helpful when I ordered the dodger, but that was long ago. The canvas was replaced by him recently, but I don’t see why any competent canvas worker couldn’t do it. One tip. The original Lexan glazing clouded over after a few years even though we have covers and keep them on when not actually sailing. I think it is because we used Rain-X on it. Don’t. Now I apply Plast-X a couple of times a year and the newer ones are standing up well.

Would not recommend this company. Demanding large deposit with no insurance that the job would be completed.
Owner is extremely hard to work with.

Jacques is a very careful and conscientious worker, but he can be difficult to talk to. I am confident he will deliver what he promises.

I’d like to order a dodger from this company but I can’t find their contact information. Can someone help me with that? I need their address and phone number. Jacques’ email hasn’t gotten a response.

Try Bea’s Canvas. They have a phone number. They do the canvas for tartarooga dodgers. https://beascanvas.com/

I found him obnoxious and impossible to deal with. All I asked for was a price range, not a quote or estimate.
